Bag Dads (bagdads.com.au) is a small Australian store run by two Brisbane dads with help from AI tools and Shopify. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we don't do with it. No dark patterns dressed up as legalese.

Who we are

What we collect

  • Order details — name, email, phone, shipping and billing address, what you bought, payment confirmation (we don't store full card numbers; Shopify / the payment provider handles that)
  • Messages you send us — emails, contact form notes, DMs if we move the chat to email
  • Basic site / device data — IP address, browser type, pages viewed, checkout steps — via Shopify and standard analytics / ads pixels if they're installed
  • Marketing consent — only if you opt in (e.g. email signup). Buying something does not auto-subscribe you to a spam cannon

Why we use it

  • To fulfil and support your order (including pre-order ship-date updates when the boat moves)
  • To detect fraud and keep checkout working
  • To improve the store and, if you've opted in, send the occasional useful update about Bag Dads
  • To meet legal and tax record-keeping requirements in Australia

Who we share it with

Only people / systems that need it to run the shop:

  • Shopify and their payment / infrastructure partners
  • Shipping carriers (e.g. Australia Post) — name, address, phone for delivery
  • Email / ops tools we use to answer support (e.g. our inbox)
  • Advertising / analytics partners (e.g. Meta) if pixels or conversions are connected — typically hashed or event data, not a spreadsheet of your life

We do not sell your personal information. We're two dads and an AI, not a data brokerage.

Overseas processing

Shopify and some subprocessors store or process data outside Australia (commonly including Canada, the US, and other regions where their infrastructure runs). If you checkout with us, you understand that necessary order data will be processed on those systems under Shopify's terms and this policy.

How long we keep it

  • Order and tax records: kept as long as Australian law requires (generally 5+ years for business records)
  • Marketing lists: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete
  • Support emails: a sensible period so we can follow up on orders / returns, then culled

Security

Checkout runs on Shopify's encrypted infrastructure. We don't keep full card data on our own machines. No security setup is perfect; if we ever become aware of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you and the relevant authorities as required.

Cookies & tracking

The store uses cookies and similar tech for cart / session, preferences, analytics, and — when connected — ads measurement. You can block cookies in your browser; the site may get clunkier (especially checkout).

Your choices

  • Access or correct the personal info we hold about you
  • Ask us to delete what we no longer need to keep by law
  • Unsubscribe from marketing any time (link in the email, or just reply)
  • Raise a complaint with us first; if unresolved, with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)

Kids

This store sells adult purchasing of dad gear. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you think we have, tell us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version here. Continued use of the site after that means you've seen the update.
